When I was a young man in my early 20’s I found myself in the unenviable position of needing a job and fast. One day as I was walking down the street a few blocks from my rental unit, I came upon a bunch of old radios from the 1930’s and televisions from the 1940’s sitting in a parking lot in front of an old TV shop in a back alley.
Curious, I walked up to the door and knocked. An old man’s voice rang out from the back room, “Who is it?”. “Well, it’s me just wondering why all of these vintage TVs and radios are in the parking lot like this?” “We had a flood and water got into my shop. I need help cleaning this mess up, you interested in some work?” “Yes!”
So began my working for a nice elderly man named Mr. Logan. As I helped him over the next several months, he shared with me his life story which included how he made his first fortune. It was way back in the 1930’s when this unknown African American boxer named Joe Louis was fighting for the title. Mr. Logan shared that he sold radios to the entire town so everyone could listen to this historic event as it happened. Mr. Logan saw an opportunity and made the most of it! Got rich and started a viable company that was successful for almost 70 years.
